Shaun Brown (RegAI FInstAI), Area Sales Manager, from GEZE UK will be a guest speaker at a seminar organised by the Fire Door Inspection Scheme (FDIS) and Dorset Fire and Rescue Service (DFRS).
The free half day event, which is taking place at Weymouth Community Safety Centre in Weymouth Dorset, DT4 0QF, is designed to educate building owners and facilities managers about their legal responsibilities regarding fire door safety.
It is estimated that over 320 people lost their lives due to fire in 2013-14*. Fire doors are used in commercial premises and some domestic buildings such as flats and University halls of residents, to compartmentalise the property, reducing the spread of fire or smoke, whilst still providing a means of escape. It is a legal requirement under article 17 of the Fire Safety Order that fire resisting doors and escape doors are correctly installed and maintained to ensure that they are fit for purpose.
At the event Shaun will speak about considerations around the specification, installation and maintenance of architectural ironmongery for fire doors. Other speakers include, Andy Fox, Head of Fire Safety DFRS who will talk on the subject of 'Fire Protection: is it enough?', Neil Ashdown, FDIS General Manager who will explain about Fire Doors and the Law, and Jeremy French, Certificated Fire Door Inspector, who will give an overview of Fire Door Inspections. The FDIS website offers full details and booking information.
Kaz Spiewakowski, managing director of GEZE UK said: "Fire safety has always been a priority for us, so we are pleased to have been invited to take part in this event.
